Four Nations Initiative presents final report in New York
On 13-18 September, the Four Nations Initiative on Governance and Management of the UN (4NI) will present its final report in New York before the Secretary-General, the President of the General Assembly and all Member States.
The report is the result of 18 months work aimed at finding common and constructive solutions for improvements within the UN.
"This initiative is a serious attempt to break the deadlock that has characterised all too many of UN reform efforts. Unfortunately, it is unique that Member States themselves take this kind of initiative. We hope that this experiment, with countries from four continents and which has received broad support, will be an important contribution to the Secretary-General and the Member States in making the necessary changes to UN working procedures", says Ambassador Bengt Säve-Söderbergh, member of the Steering Committee of the Four Nations Initiative.
--------------
The 4NI is an unusual cooperation between Chile, South Africa, Sweden and Thailand which has aimed at showing that the Member States themselves can take their responsibility and act as the UN's owners and governors.
The 4NI invites the press to a briefing in connection with the presentation of its final report in New York. At that time it will be possible to address questions to Sweden's representatives on the 4NI Steering Committee.
