Sten Tolgfors to the OECD in Paris and meetings with Lamy and Amorim

Minister for Foreign Trade Sten Tolgfors will participate in the OECD annual ministerial meeting in Paris on 15-16 May. On Tuesday, the Minister for Foreign Trade will also take part in a panel at the "OECD Forum 2007: Innovation, Growth and Equity".

In connection with the OECD meeting, Mr Tolgfors will hold bilateral talks with the Director-General of the WTO, Pascal Lamy, Brazil's Minister of External Relations, Celso Amorim and Holland's Minister for Foreign Trade Frank Heemskerk.

"We are going to launch a Swedish-Dutch initiative concerning the biofuel trade. We need better knowledge of the challenges facing the multilateral trade system in view of the climate change issue," says Mr Tolgfors.

"We want the creation of a world market for biofuels. For this we need trade barriers to be dismantled and more producers, and to refrain from dividing up the world with various agreements that exclude some and include others".

OECD meeting

The OECD ministerial meeting will discuss current international economic issues, focusing on globalisation, growth, trade and the importance of encouraging innovation.
It is hoped that the OECD ministers will also take a decision on enlarging the organisation by including new member states, and on strengthening cooperation with regions such as Southeast Asia and Latin America.

OECD Forum 2007: Innovation, Growth and Equity

In parallel with the ministerial meeting, Mr Tolgfors will take part in a panel discussion with the Secretary-General of the WTO, Pascal Lamy, within the framework of the "OECD Forum 2007: Innovation, Growth and Equity" meeting.

At these OECD Forum meetings, employers and employees as well as representatives of trade organisations, governments and international organisations meet to discuss the issues that are subsequently raised at the OECD ministerial meetings.

The OECD Forum 2007 will be held at the Palais Brongniart, Place de la Bourse, Paris on 14-15 May.
