A strategy for gender equality in the labour market and the business sector

In July 2009, the Government adopted a cohesive strategy for gender equality in the labour market and the business sector. The 60-odd measures outlined in the strategy are partially funded by SEK 235 million from the gender equality appropriation. A new information material describes the Government's overall, long-term policy focus and the current work within four separate areas.

Against prostitution and human trafficking for sexual purposes

In July 2008, the Government adopted an action plan for combating prostitution in Sweden and human trafficking for sexual purposes. Altogether, SEK 203 million will be invested in 36 measures up to the year 2010. In a new information material, the Government Action Plan and the current work within five priority areas is described.

New information film on trafficking

In July 2008 the Swedish Government launched an action plan for combating prostitution and trafficking in human beings for sexual purposes. A total of SEK 213 million will be invested in 36 measures until 2010. As one of the measures, the Swedish Institute was commissioned to spread information on Swedish methods and perspectives relevant to the work against prostitution and human trafficking. The Swedish Government's youth policy

Swedish national youth policy is cross-sectoral and
encompasses all policy areas of relevance to youth.

The Swedish Government's gender equality policy

The Swedish Government's gender equality policy has two principal aims: to combat and transform systems that preserve the gender-based distribution of power and resources in society, and to ensure that women and men enjoy the same power and opportunities to shape their own lives. Strategy for gender equality in the labour market

In June the Swedish Government presented a strategy for gender equality in the labour market and the business sector. The strategy contains both an analysis and a description of specific measures aimed at promoting women's and men's equal opportunities to develop their potential in these areas. More than 60 measures have been presented, including the investment of SEK 235 million from the gender equality appropriation in special initiatives.

Start of the Swedish EU Presidency

Today the Swedish EU Presidency begins and the work to lead negotiations on e.g. an antidiscrimination directive, a directive on consumer rights, and a decision on a future youth policy framework. Issues concerning gender equality will also be on the agenda, among them the integration of gender equality into the Lisbon process, how EU lives up to the UN action plan on gender equality, and violence against women in an European context. Special Secretary for Human Rights in Brazil, Mr. Paulo Vannuchi and Ms. Nyamko Sabuni

Today, the Special Secretary for Human Rights in Brazil, Mr. Paulo Vannuchi, visited the Minister for Integration and Gender Equality, Ms. Nyamko Sabuni. They discussed about the Brazilian and the Swedish National Action Plans for Human Rights, how to combat different forms of discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity as well as minority issues.

Sabuni met the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Today, Ms. Navanethem Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights visited the Minister for Integration and Gender Equality, Ms. Nyamko Sabuni. The conversation revolved around the need for systematic work for human rights implementation and Sweden's agenda concerning gender equality and anti-discrimination during the EU presidency.

Sabuni in talks on gender equality with French Secretary of State

Today, Ms Valérie Létard, Secretary of State in France and responsible for issues of gender equality and discrimination, visited the Minister of Integration and Gender Equality in Sweden, Ms Nyamko Sabuni. Ms Létard and Ms Sabuni talked about the upcoming Swedish EU Presidency, which starts on the 1 of July, and the work to promote gender equality and to combat all forms of discrimination within the EU.
