Start of the Swedish EU Presidency

Today the Swedish EU Presidency begins and the work to lead negotiations on e.g. an antidiscrimination directive, a directive on consumer rights, and a decision on a future youth policy framework. Issues concerning gender equality will also be on the agenda, among them the integration of gender equality into the Lisbon process, how EU lives up to the UN action plan on gender equality, and violence against women in an European context. Brazilian Minister on visit

Special Secretary for Human Rights in Brazil, Mr. Paulo Vannuchi and Ms. Nyamko Sabuni

Today, the Special Secretary for Human Rights in Brazil, Mr. Paulo Vannuchi, visited the Minister for Integration and Gender Equality, Ms. Nyamko Sabuni. They discussed about the Brazilian and the Swedish National Action Plans for Human Rights, how to combat different forms of discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity as well as minority issues.

Sabuni met the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Today, Ms. Navanethem Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights visited the Minister for Integration and Gender Equality, Ms. Nyamko Sabuni. The conversation revolved around the need for systematic work for human rights implementation and Sweden's agenda concerning gender equality and anti-discrimination during the EU presidency.
