Measures with reference to the Laval judgment

The Government today made a decision on a proposal to be referred to the Council on Legislation concerning measures in response to the European Court of Justice judgment in the Laval case.

"I am glad that we have found a solution that combines the Swedish labour market model with existing Community law in a well-balanced way. It is possible to retain the Swedish model while respecting Community law" says Minister for Employment Sven Otto Littorin.

Ministers discussed labour market inclusion

"I have been very positively surprised by how the discussions have gone over the past days", said Minister for Employment Sven Otto Littorin to the assembled journalists at the end of the fourth and final day of the informal ministerial meeting in Jönköping. He explained that the discussions had resulted in three keywords: hope, trust and activity.

Non governmental organisations and social partners gave their views on labour market inclusion

"We had very interesting discussions. Among other things, we talked about solidarity and social participation", said President of the Social Platform Conny Reuter at Wednesday's press conference. On Wednesday morning, the Social Platform, an EU organisation with around 40 member organisations working with social issues, and representatives of social partners met, opening day three of the informal ministerial meeting in Jönköping on 6-9 July.

Work of the Ministry of Employment during the Presidency

Starting on 1 July, Sweden will hold the EU Presidency for six months. Employment is a priority issue in the context of the 18-month programme, which is the working programme drawn up jointly by Sweden, France and the Czech Republic.

Protection of personal privacy in working life

The Committee of Protection of Personal Privacy in Working Life has today presented its Government Report to the Minister for Employment mr Sven Otto Littorin.

The committee has been commissioned to draw up proposals for legislation to protect the personal privacy of the individual in working life.

The Laval Inquiry: Action in response to the Laval judgment

At the end of 2004, there was a blockade and sympathy action against the Latvian company Laval at a building site in Vaxholm, Sweden. The Laval judgment explained that it was not compatible with Community law to allow industrial action in the situation in question. Therefore, The Laval Inquiry was assigned by the Swedish Government to present proposals for such changes in Swedish legislation as need to be made as a result of the Laval judgment.

The Laval Inquiry presented a report to the Swedish Government on 12 December 2008. A summary of the report, where the inquiry have conducted an analysis of the Laval judgment and presented proposals in accordance with the Committee Terms of Reference, can be found below.
