About the Ministry of Employment

The Ministry of Employment has almost 100 employees, of whom approximately six per cent are political appointees. Minister for Employment Sven Otto Littorin is head of the Ministry and he has a political staff with a State Secretary, a Press Secretary and Political Advisers.

Work of the Ministry of Employment during the Presidency

Starting on 1 July, Sweden will hold the EU Presidency for six months. Employment is a priority issue in the context of the 18-month programme, which is the working programme drawn up jointly by Sweden, France and the Czech Republic.

Protection of personal privacy in working life

The Committee of Protection of Personal Privacy in Working Life has today presented its Government Report to the Minister for Employment mr Sven Otto Littorin.

The committee has been commissioned to draw up proposals for legislation to protect the personal privacy of the individual in working life.

The Laval Inquiry: Action in response to the Laval judgment

At the end of 2004, there was a blockade and sympathy action against the Latvian company Laval at a building site in Vaxholm, Sweden. The Laval judgment explained that it was not compatible with Community law to allow industrial action in the situation in question. Therefore, The Laval Inquiry was assigned by the Swedish Government to present proposals for such changes in Swedish legislation as need to be made as a result of the Laval judgment.

The Laval Inquiry presented a report to the Swedish Government on 12 December 2008. A summary of the report, where the inquiry have conducted an analysis of the Laval judgment and presented proposals in accordance with the Committee Terms of Reference, can be found below.

The Swedish EU Presidency

From 1 July 2009 and for six months Sweden will hold the Presidency of the EU.
