Swedish election monitors to Albania
The Government decided today to send two election monitors to Albania ahead of the local elections in January. The Government will also provide an additional 10 election observers, who will follow the election proceedings on election day, 21 January.
"These elections of mayors and local people's councils are important for strengthening positive democratic development in Albania. By sending election monitors to Albania, Sweden can contribute to a better functioning electoral system in the country," says Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson.
The decision to send election monitors follows a request from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Sida is responsible for the recruitment and training of Swedish election observers. Questions may be addressed to Sida's election monitoring group.
