Comments by Andreas Carlgren on the Peace Prize
Minister for the Environment Andreas Carlgren comments on the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to Al Gore and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
"I welcome the fact that the Nobel Peace Prize highlights the crucial issue of our time. The prize winners have laid the foundation for arousing and uniting the world to take global action on climate change. This confirms the important role the environment has in security and peace."
"The UN Panel on Climate Change, chaired by Rajendra Pachauri, has played a crucial role in enabling the countries of the world to be able to reach agreement on sufficient emission reductions. The Prize is further confirmation of the world's high expectations that we will succeed."
"My meetings with Al Gore and Rajendra Pachauri have given me an understanding of their insights. Mr Pachauri took part in the meeting at Riksgränsen in June this year. I look forward to attending the meeting early next year on the way forward after the Bali conference in December, to which he has invited me and other actors."
