Areas of Responsibility

Minister for Local Government and Financial Markets Mats Odell is responsible for:

• Local authorities

  The Ministry of Finance is responsible for allocating general grants to local authorities (municipalities and county councils) and for the local government equalisation system. The Ministry of Finance is also responsible for the general legislation applying to municipalities, county councils and local federations.

• County administrative boards

  The Ministry of Finance is responsible for development and coordination in the Government Offices concerning the direction, governance and follow-up of the activities of the county administrative boards.

• Central government administration

  The Ministry of Finance is responsible for the development of central government administration.

• Banks, securities and insurance

  The Ministry of Finance is responsible for the regulation of financial markets and for financial area work in the EU.

• Housing provision

  The Ministry of Finance is responsible for administrative and legislative matters concerning housing provision issues, housing finance and non-profit housing companies.
