New contributions to the world's poorest countries
Sweden has contributed to a record-breaking topping up of the World Bank fund for the poorest countries, the International Development Association (IDA) to the tune of USD 25 billion. Last week, Sweden and other donor countries decided to give a similar boost to the African Development Fund's resources by donating over USD 8.5 billion.

Government presents bill on peacekeeping operation in Darfur
The Swedish and Norwegian governments have notified the UN that they will contribute a joint engineer force of around 400 people to UNAMID, which will take over from the AU-led force by the end of this year at the latest. The Swedish contingent will comprise at most 160 people.
Pledging Conference in Stockholm, September 25
Today, Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson, Minister for Trade Ewa Björling host a pledging conference on the Integrated framework for trade-related Technical Assistance to least-developed countries. The participants include the Secretary-General of WTO Pascal Lamy, the Head of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Supachai Panitchpakdi and the Executive Director of ITC, International Trade Centre, Ms Patricia Francis.
Strategy for Sweden's multilateral development cooperation
The Swedish Government approved a new strategy in April 2007 to provide guidence to Sweden's Ministry officials and governmental agencies that interact with the UN system, the international financial institutions (IFIs) or development cooperation through the European Union. The strategy document is now available in English language.
Linneaus and Swedish gold coins charm Poland
The same day that the Linneaus exhibition "Systems and Passion" was inaugurated in Szczecin, the ribbon was cut for the unique exhibition of objects from the Royal Ship Kronan in Gdansk. The exhibition is displaying exclusive objects such as the ship's wooden baroque ornaments, and gold, silver and copper coins from the 15th to the 17th centuries.
