Carl Bildt to take part in conference on Afghanistan in Paris

On Thursday 12 June Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt is taking part in the International Conference in Support of Afghanistan in Paris.

Minister for Trade Ewa Björling's State Secretary Gunnar Wieslander is leading a Swedish trade delegation in Kazakhstan on 8-11 June. Meetings are taking place with politicians and local representatives from the cities of Almaty and Astana and with Swedish companies that are already established there. Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty to be discussed in Stockholm

On Wednesday 11 June, the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO), Tibor Tóth, will come to Stockholm. He will discuss the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) with Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt and Ambassador Henrik Salander.

Meeting in Stockholm on the overburdened European Court of Human Rights

On 9-10 June, international experts meet in Stockholm to discuss how the member states of the Council of Europe can help reduce the number of applications to the Court. Minister for Justice Beatrice Ask gave the opening speech at the meeting.
"If the Court is to continue to be able to perform its important task of helping to strengthen human rights in Europe - it's important for the Court to be able to work with efficient methods that are adapted to the demands currently placed on it," Beatrice Ask said.

Following a decision by the Government in November, a number of Swedish embassies and consulates will be phased out.

On 4-5 June, Minister for Trade Ewa Björling will be participating in the yearly OECD Ministerial Council Meeting at the organisation's headquarters in Paris.

Sweden hosts the first Iraq Compact Annual Review Conference in Stockholm (the ICI Conference). Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt opened the conference and in connection with this he met US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Prime Minister of Iraq Nouri Al-Maliki and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
