"Yesterday's news that Moscow will be taking a number of measures to establish closer ties with the Georgian areas of Abkhazia and South Ossetia is deeply disquieting.
Georgia's territorial integrity contributes to the stability of the wider Caucasus region, where not least Russia should have a very great interest in stability in particular. It is firmly supported, not least by the European Union."

Global standardisation - more than straight cucumbers

On Wednesday the Government presented a communication to the Riksdag describing the importance of standardisation in an increasingly globalised world.
"In almost every area, standardisation works very well, and that's something we benefit from on a daily basis in that it gives us safer, cheaper and better products;" says Minister for Trade Ewa Björling.

For the fifth year in a row the Swedish Consulate-General in Los Angeles is arranging a Swedish Lifestyle Month, "Beyond Blond". This year the organisers are focusing on sustainable energy, IT and the entertainment industry. A new feature this year is a blog, to enable a dialogue with target groups. (The symbol for this year's Beyond Blond is a fresh green apple.)

Extra support to WFP to counter effects of rising food prices

World Food Programme

The Government is to make an extra contribution of SEK 70 million to the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to help counter the immediate effects of escalating food prices.

- Rising food prices are starting to have a very tangible impact, affecting millions of the world's most vulnerable people who depend on food aid for their survival. The WFP has appealed to the donor community to take urgent and concerted action in this critical situation. Sweden is responding to this appeal, says Gunilla Carlsson.

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg on State Visit to Stockholm

His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri and Her Royal Highness Maria Teresa of Luxembourg pay a State Visit to Sweden this week. The Government of Luxembourg is represented by Minister for Foreign Affairs Jean Asselborn and Minister of Justice Luc Frieden.

Minister for Trade Ewa Björling is currently visiting China and Japan together with Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and Minister for the Environment Andreas Carlgren. Dr Björling is also leading the accompanying business delegation with representatives from around 35 companies.
