Enlargement in Strasbourg

This week, the European Parliament meets in Strasbourg and seven Swedish ministers will attend to represent the Council. On Wednesday, Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt will represent the Swedish Presidency in a debate on the EU's enlargement strategy. Carl Bildt will also participate in a debate on piracy off the coast of Somalia.

On 20 November 2009 the European Union and the People's Republic of China held the 28th round of the EU-China Dialogue on Human Rights in Beijing.

EU-China summit in Nanjing

On Monday 30 November the 12th EU-China summit will be held in Nanjing. The EU delegation will be headed by Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and the Chinese host will be Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. Delegates from Sweden include Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt.

Sweden to contribute SEK 20 million to UNICEF's efforts for children in armed conflict

In connection with the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, Sweden will make an extra contribution of SEK 20 million to UNICEF's efforts to implement Security Council Resolution 1882 on children in armed conflict.

EU-Russia summit in Stockholm

On Wednesday, 18 November Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt will chair the EU summit with Russia. Minister for Enterprise and Energy Maud Olofsson and Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt will also attend the summit.

Afghanistan important issue at meeting of foreign affairs, defence and development cooperation ministers

Yesterday's meeting in the General Affairs and External Relations Council covered a large number of issues. However, one recurring topic was Afghanistan, which was discussed in different groupings of ministers for foreign affairs, defence and development cooperation, and also with the NATO Secretary-General and the UN Special Representative to Afghanistan.

On Monday and Tuesday, 16 and 17 November, the General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC) will meet in Brussels. Human rights in focus at Stockholm International Fairs in Älvsjö

On Monday and Tuesday next week it is time for the Human Rights Days at Stockholm International Fairs in Älvsjö. There will be seminars, speakers and workshops. One of the seminars will focus on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), the country reviews carried out by the UN Human Rights Council. Next year Sweden will be reviewed.
