Conference "Climate Smart Food"
During its Presidency of the EU, Sweden will organise a conference on the climate impact of the food chain, i.e. activities that take place from farm to fork. The conference will be a meeting point for actors from throughout the food chain, focusing on possible measures to reduce climate impact.
The Ministry of Agriculture's work during the Swedish EU Presidency
On 1 July 2009, Sweden will take over the Presidency of the EU. This means that for six months, Sweden will lead the EU's work and be responsible for ensuring that progress is made on a number of important EU issues. Intensive work is well underway on preparations for the Swedish Presidency.
More entrepreneurship and jobs in rural areas
In this year's Budget Bill the Government is continuing its work to strengthen the competitiveness of Swedish agriculture and encourage entrepreneurs in rural areas. The Government's initiative to promote Sweden as the new food nation is followed up in the budget with new resources for small and medium-sized companies in the food industry that will stimulate innovation and thereby more jobs.

Minister for Agriculture visited Berlin
The Minister for Agriculture Eskil Erlandsson has been in Berlin for several days to attend the International Green Week (Grüne Woche) agricultural exhibition. On his agenda was cooking with members of the Swedish National Chefs Team, speaking about the Government's vision 'Culinary Sweden' and networking with his fellow European agriculture ministers ahead of Sweden's upcoming EU Presidency.
Roving Bandits in Modern Fisheries
The discussion paper "Roving Bandits in Modern Fisheries" is now available in an English translation to download or order. The discussion paper, which is published by the Swedish FAO Committee, highlights the difficulties that fisheries policy in Europe and in many other regions has in meeting the goals set for economic, social and ecological sustainability.
Sweden aims to be Europe's new food nation

Total ban on cat and dog fur
Today the Government will present to the Council on Legislation its legislative proposal on penalties for those selling or distributing cat and dog fur or products containing such fur.
Sweden - Europe's new food nation
The minister of Agriculture Mr. Eskil Erlandsson presented his and the Government of Swedens Foodvision - Sweden - the new food nation. The new national objective is that Sweden with its unique landscape, quality of food and knowledge will be Europe's new food nation.
