Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and Deputy Prime Minister Maud Olofsson to receive Vice President Xi Jinping

On Monday 29 March Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and Deputy Prime Minister Maud Olofsson are to receive Vice President Xi Jinping. The agenda includes talks on bilateral cooperation areas between Sweden and China, such as the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, trade relations, follow-up of the climate change conference in Copenhagen and follow-up of the economic and financial crisis.

Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt comments on the Riksdag's decision concerning the events in 1915 in the then Ottoman Empire

The motion presented by a number of Members was approved by the Riksdag by a margin of one vote. The decision calls on the Government to recognise the events of 1915 in the then Ottoman Empire as genocide.
"I informed Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Saturday that I regret the decision of the Riksdag, as it paves the way for a politicisation of historical events. I also expressed my concern that this could be used by forces in Turkey that are trying to put a stop to the process of reconciliation with Armenia and the process of reform in Turkey."

Fredrik Reinfeldt and Carl Bildt visited Moscow

On Tuesday 9 March, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt visited Moscow for talks with President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. This was a follow-up to the constructive discussions held in connection with the meeting in Stockholm in November last year.

Cecilia Malmström steps down as Minister for EU Affairs

Today, Friday 22 January, Cecilia Malmström asked to be relieved from her post as minister. Ms Malmström will take up her new post as Sweden's EU Commissioner for Home Affairs once the European Parliament has approved the entire incoming European Commission. This is expected to take place on 9 February.

Cecilia Malmström questioned at hearing in European Parliament

Tuesday 19 January Cecilia Malmström was questioned in the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (the LIBE Committee) in Strasbourg. The Committee's hearings will provide the basis for whether the European Parliament approves or rejects the Commission as a whole. The debate and vote will take place in the Chamber on 26 January.

Fredrik Reinfeldt to receive Herman Van Rompuy

On Thursday 14 January, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt will meet President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy for talks. The agenda includes discussions on the economic situation and the future EU growth strategy (the '2020 strategy'), follow-up of the UN Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen and the European Council's meetings on the basis of the Treaty of Lisbon.

Fredrik Reinfeldt leads EU during climate change conference

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (16-18 December), Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt is in Copenhagen to represent the EU at the United Nations Climate Change Conference. Programme points included meetings with different heads of state and government, address to the assembled conference and an extra negotiations meeting called for by the EU.

Reinfeldt to EU-China summit in Nanjing

On Monday 30 November the 12th EU-China summit will be held in Nanjing. The EU delegation will be headed by Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and the Chinese host will be Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. On the agenda the main issue is the climate.

EU-Russia summit in Stockholm

On Wednesday, 18 November Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt chaired the EU summit with Russia. The two priority issues during the Swedish Presidency - climate change and the economic and financial crisis - were on the agenda, as well as energy issues, foreign affairs, trade policy and human rights.
