Cecilia Malmström nominated as a candidate for the position of commissioner to the European Commission

Today, the Swedish Government nominated Cecilia Malmström, currently Minister for EU Affairs, as a candidate for the position of commissioner to the European Commission.
- Europe has to deal with a range of decisive issues. For example we have to handle climate change, increased cross-border crime, and make further enlargement possible. I am proud and honoured for the opportunity to contribute to this important task as Commissioner, says Cecilia Malmström in a statement.

Fredrik Reinfeldt to meet Barack Obama

On Tuesday 3 November, Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, representing the EU Presidency, will visit Washington to chair the EU-USA Summit together with US President Barack Obama. The agenda includes issues such as climate change and the road to Copenhagen, the global economic and financial crisis and follow-up of the G20 meeting in Pittsburgh as well as Afghanistan and Iran.

The meeting of Nordic and Baltic prime ministers and the 61st Session of the Nordic Council will be held in Stockholm, beginning on Monday and Tuesday, 26-27 October. Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and Deputy Prime Minister Maud Olofsson will chair the meetings.
