Report on violent Islamist extremism
In February this year, the Swedish Security Service was tasked by the Government to present a report on Islamist extremism in Sweden, how people are radicalised and what can be done to prevent this from happening. On Wednesday 15 December, Director-General of the Swedish Security Service Anders Danielsson presented a report entitled "Violent Islamist Extremism in Sweden" to the minister responsible for democracy issues, Birgitta Ohlsson.
"We must take terrorism extremely seriously without, however, interfering with democracy and the principles of open society," says Ms Ohlsson.
Fredrik Reinfeldt to visit David Cameron in London
Fredrik Reinfeldt travels to London tomorrow, Thursday 25 November, to meet British Prime Minister David Cameron. During the day there will be talks at 10 Downing Street followed by a press conference and a joint visit to Skanska's construction site at London Hospital, Whitechapel. On the agenda for the talks with David Cameron are, above all, current EU issues with a focus on economic policy and the EU's budget. In addition, a number of current foreign policy and trade issues are expected to be addressed.
President of the European Council to visit Stockholm
Tomorrow, Tuesday 23 November, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy will be in Stockholm for a working lunch with Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt. The agenda for their meeting includes current EU issues, focusing on economic policy and the discussions on the permanent crisis resolution mechanism, relevant treaty changes and the EU budget.
Government meets diplomatic corps
On Thursday 7 October, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt presented the new Government to ambassadors and chargés d'affaires from the 104 foreign embassies in Stockholm. Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt welcomed guests to the reception, which he hosted.
New state secretaries at the Prime Minister's Office
The Government has today appointed Per Schlingmann as State Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office with responsibility for communication, and Katarina Areskoug Mascarenhas as State Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office with responsibility for foreign and EU affairs.
Statement of government policy at the opening of the Riksdag session
Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt will deliver the Statement of Government Policy at the opening of the Riksdag session on 5 October. The Statement outlines the policies the Government intends to pursue over the coming year. He may also announce which ministers will serve in the Government and any reorganisation of the ministries.
Minister for Employment Sven Otto Littorin resigns
At a press conference in Almedalen this morning, Minister for Employment Sven Otto Littorin announced that, due to personal reasons, he is resigning his ministerial post. In light of this, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt held a press conference in Rosenbad.
"Today, at his request, I accepted Sven Otto Littorin's resignation as minister and head of the Ministry of Employment. He gave me the same motives for his resignation - personal reasons - that he gave the media this morning, using the same words and descriptions. I have great respect for his decision."
"Also, as of today and until further notice, I have appointed Tobias Billström as head of the Ministry of Employment. This does not entail any changes regarding Tobias Billström's responsibilities at the Ministry of Justice," Mr Reinfeldt stated at the press conference.
Speaker and Prime Minister presented gift to Crown Princess Victoria and Mr Daniel Westling
At the pre-wedding reception at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, Speaker of the Riksdag Per Westerberg and Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt presented the joint gift of the Riksdag and the Government to H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria and Mr Daniel Westling.
Nordic Globalisation Forum and prime ministers meeting on 20-21 May
The Nordic Prime Ministers and leading experts from the research world and the business sector met in Helsinki on 20 May for the Nordic Globalisation Forum. The issues discussed centred around the Nordic countries as a low-energy society and laboratory for green technology.
At today's informal summer meeting, it was agreed that a working group will follow up ideas from the Globalisation Forum that can be transformed into concrete cooperation. At the next prime ministers meeting in November, the Nordic energy ministers will also report on how cooperation in the Nordic electricity market can be made more effective. The agenda for the prime ministers meeting also included the global economic situation and the follow-up to the international climate negotiations.
The EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region concerns many
The Government has presented to the Riksdag Government Communication 2009/10:159, Implementation of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The Strategy was adopted under the Swedish Presidency last autumn.
"The Baltic Sea Strategy concerns everyone that lives in the countries around the Baltic Sea. The Baltic Sea region has good prospects of becoming a role model for the whole of the EU in the fight against organised crime, effective climate change action and strong economic growth," says Birgitta Ohlsson, the government minister responsible for the Strategy.
