Minister for the Environment Andreas Carlgren is visiting Washington DC, USA on Monday and Tuesday 23-24 June. Mr Carlgren will discuss the international climate negotiations with the presidential candidates' advisers, senators, members of congress and the current administration.

Meeting in Stockholm on how to relieve the pressure on the European Court of Human Rights
On 9-10 June 2008 there will be an international expert meeting in Stockholm on the European Court of Human Rights. The meeting will particularly discuss how the member states of the Council of Europe can help reduce the number of applications to the Court, which receives far more cases each year than it can possibly deal with. Minister for Justice Beatrice Ask will give the opening address at the meeting.
Sweden hosts international conference on Iraq
On Thursday 29 May Sweden was the host country for the first Iraq Compact Annual Review Conference in Stockholm (the ICI Conference). Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt opened the conference and in connection with this he met US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Prime Minister of Iraq Nouri Al-Maliki and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Go-ahead for wind power at Stora Middelgrund
The Government has granted approval for a wind farm at Stora Middelgrund in the Kattegatt. The wind farm will triple Swedish wind power production compared with the present level. The decision sets out conditions to ensure the environment is protected.
