"Financial stability requires coordinated European approach"

In a joint opinion piece published in the Financial Times on Wednesday, Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt and Minister for Finance Anders Borg write about the role of the banks, and state that a coordinated European approach is necessary to achieve financial stability.

Fredrik Reinfeldt condemns verdict against Julia Tymoshenko

Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Julia Tymoshenko was today sentenced to seven years in prison. Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt is critical of the verdict, which in his view "does not respect international standards as regards fair, independent and transparent legal process."

Magnus Kindbom to open seminar on World Food Day

On Friday 14 October 2011, a seminar will be held at the Government Offices to mark World Food Day. This year's theme is 'Food Prices - From Crisis to Stability', which focuses on the recent heavy price fluctuations on the food market, their underlying causes and the impact they have.
The seminar will be opened by State Secretary Magnus Kindbom, who is also chair of the Swedish FAO Committee.

Ban Ki-moon paid tribute to Dag Hammarskjöld

When UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt in Stockholm today, he paid tribute to his Swedish predecessor Dag Hammarskjöld. He also gave prominence to Swedens leading role in terms of commitment and support to the United Nations and its specialised agencies.

Government newsletter - Sweden to be best in the world at IT

The Government newsletter is about the strategy 'A digital agenda for Sweden', which is being presented on Thursday 6 October. The aim of the strategy is for Sweden to become the world leader in using the opportunities digitisation has to offer.

Ewa Björling to visit Iraq

On 3-4 October Minister for Trade Ewa Björling will visit Baghdad, accompanied by a business delegation. Meetings will be held with representatives of Iraqi government agencies and enterprises. In addition, Dr Björling will meet Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki and Minister of Trade Khayrullah Babakir. During her visit, Dr Björling will also open the Swedish Trade Council's new trade office in Baghdad.

"Iraq is becoming an increasingly important market as the situation in the country continues to stabilise. I am hopeful that Swedish companies will be able to re-establish themselves in this market and that new companies will be able to enter the Iraqi market," says Dr Björling.

Annie Lööf new Minister for Enterprise and Regional Affairs, Lena Ek new Minister for the Environment

Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt today appointed Annie Lööf Minister for Enterprise and Regional Affairs and head of the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications. Lena Ek has been appointed Minister for the Environment and head of the Ministry of the Environment. Anna-Karin Hatt will now take over responsibility for energy issues and will therefore be Minister for Information Technology and Energy.

The new ministers will take up their posts with immediate effect.

UN General Assembly opens

On Wednesday 21 September, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) began its General Debate after opening its 66th Session last week. Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt and Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson are at UN headquarters in New York. Today, the Prime Minister will give Sweden's address to the General Assembly.
