Penalties and damages

The penalty is normally a fine, but the law also makes it possible to impose a prison sentence. There may also be an obligation to pay damages. If a person downloads from the Internet and does not know or have reason to suspect that the material is not legal, no sanction will be imposed. It is often clear from the website whether the material is legal or not.
