Circumvention of technological measures
Under the new provisions it is prohibited to circumvent encryption, password locks and similar devices that are used to protect for instance music and films that are on sale for downloading on the Internet. It is also prohibited to circumvent copy protection measures and other devices that are used to prevent or limit copying of music or films for instance.
Consequently, it is not permitted to break or circumvent any password lock or encryption in order to use freely material that is on sale on the Internet. Neither is it permitted to break copy protection in order to copy a record. It is consequently not permitted to remove a copy protection lock on a CD or a DVD, even if this is done for the purpose of making a private copy.
Sometimes copy protection locks prevent listening to, or watching, a CD or a DVD on for instance ones' computer. In such cases the lock may be broken in order to be able to listen to or watch the contents of the recording.
It is prohibited to manufacture, sell, or make available through rental, any products intended to circumvent technological measures. It is also prohibited to possess such products for commercial purposes.
