Prime Minister welcomes Ban Ki-Moon as next UN Secretary-General
"I am truly delighted at the news that the General Assembly has agreed to appoint Ban Ki-Moon as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations," said Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt on Friday evening
"I would like to extend to him my warmest congratulations.
"Ban Ki-Moon has extensive diplomatic experience and is a highly respected person in the international community. He is very well suited to shoulder the responsibilities that the position of UN Secretary-General entails.
"The UN must continue to be strengthened and reformed to meet today's global challenges. The Secretary-General has a central role to play in these efforts".
"It is important that UN Member States give Ban Ki-Moon their full support as leader of the global organisation," stressed the Prime Minister. "Sweden looks forward to close cooperation with the new Secretary-General".
