Carl Bildt to visit the USA
Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt is to travel to the USA on 22-28 September. His visit will begin in Washington and continue on to New York and the General Debate of the UN General Assembly.
His programme includes a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and participation in a number of different ministerial meetings where peace and security in Africa and the Alliance of Civilisations will be two of the themes. He will also take part in a foreign minister meeting between the EU and Russia and hold bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Afghanistan, Serbia, Iraq, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
He will also meet several of the UN chiefs, including World Bank President Robert Zoellick, the new UN Special Representative to Iraq, Staffan de Mistura, the Head of the United Nations Development Programme, Kemal Dervis, and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Internal Oversight Services, Inga-Britt Ahlenius. The week also includes a reception hosted by George W. Bush.
