Carl Bildt to Brussels for EU Council meeting
On Monday 25 January, Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt will take part in the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
This is the first regular meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council, which is led by Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon on 1 December 2009 means that foreign affairs issues are handled in a separate Council after previously having being been dealt with in a joint Council together with general EU issues.
Monday's meeting is expected to focus on the situation in Haiti and EU support to the country following the earthquake disaster. Other issues that will be discussed include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Somalia and Yemen.
A press conference with Mr Bildt will be held following the meeting.
