Results of Nordic cooperation 2008

The Government today presented written communication 2008/09:90 on Nordic cooperation 2008 to the Riksdag.

In the communication, the Government reports on cooperation between the governments of the Nordic countries, with the primary focus on activities in the Nordic Council of Ministers. Sweden held the Presidency of the Council in 2008.

The communication focuses on the objectives and results of the year of the Swedish Presidency of the Council. It also highlights Nordic work on border barriers, globalisation and reform processes. All of these areas were given high priority during the Swedish Presidency. Joint initiatives in the adjacent region and Nordic cooperation in the areas of foreign and defence policy are also presented. Finally, attention is given to Nordic-Baltic cooperation.

It is gratifying to observe that Nordic cooperation continues to develop and gain strength, and that during our Presidency we contributed to this development by achieving our aims for the Presidency, and more besides, says Cristina Husmark Pehrsson, the minister with responsibility for Nordic cooperation.
