Organisation

The Ministry is headed by the Minister for the Environment, Mr Andreas Carlgren, who is appointed by the Prime Minister.

Below ministerial level, operations are directed by a State Secretary. The Ministry also has a press secretary and political advisers, who work closely with the Minister on policy issues.

There are two senior officials under the political leadership - a Director-General for Administrative and Legal Affairs, who is the most senior official in the Ministry with responsibility for administrative management, and a Director-General for Legal Affairs. The Director-General for Administrative and Legal Affairs ensures that the matters dealt with by the Ministry are lawful, consistent and uniform. The Directors-General are responsible for drafting primary legislation and government ordinances.
