The Ministers and the State Secretaries constitute the political leadership of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
The political leadership of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs
Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt heads the Ministry and is the Government Minister with overall responsibility for issues relating to Sweden's foreign and security policy. State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Frank Belfrage is the State Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson is the Government Minister responsible for issues relating to Sweden's international development cooperation, cooperation and support to Eastern Europe and Central Asia, humanitarian aid and the policy for global development. Joakim Stymne is the State Secretary to the Minister for International Development Cooperation.
Minister for Trade Ewa Björling is the Government Minister responsible for issues relating to foreign trade and trade policy, trade, investment and promotion of Sweden, internal market issues in the EU, and control of the production and export of military equipment. Gunnar Wieslander is the State Secretary to the Minister for Trade.
Together, the Ministers and the State Secretaries constitute the political leadership of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Ministers Office
The Ministers Office at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs consists of the political leadership, political advisers and press secretaries, and also officials and administrative assistants. The task of the Ministers Office is to assist the Ministers, in part by acting as a link between the political leadership and the rest of the Ministry's organisation.
Ministers at other ministries responsible for some Ministry for Foreign Affairs' issues
Cecilia Malmström, Minister for EU Affairs at the Prime Minister's Office, is the Government Minister responsible for business before the European Commission and the EFTA Surveillance Authority, and cases before EU courts and the EFTA court. Maria Åsenius is State Secretary to the Minister for EU Affairs.
Cristina Husmark Pehrsson, Minister for Social Security at the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, is the Government Minister responsible for Nordic cooperation. Johan Tiedemann is the State Secretary to the Minister for Social Security.
