Search assistance

There are two search functions on the website; simple search and advanced search. Simple search is used directly from the website header and advanced search is available as a link on the page header.

General tips

When searching on www.regeringen.se, pages containing all the words in your search are shown and it is easy to improve your search. By adding more words to those you have already entered, the number of search hits will be limited. You can also use - (minus), + (plus), * (asterisk), and ? (question mark) to refine your search.

+ and - modifiers

+ before a word means that the word is to be found on the page you wish to access.
- before a word means that the word is not on the page you wish to access.
Examples: +always -never

* wild card symbol

If a search word ends in * (asterisk), all the words that begin in the same way will be included in the search result. An asterisk can also be used at the beginning of a word or in the middle.
Example: budget* produces the search hits, to budget, budgetary, budgeting, etc.

? wild card symbol

If a search word contains ? (question mark), any letters will be put in its place.
Example: te?t will produce the search hits, test and text.

All these techniques can be combined. +?llway* -nev?*

Advanced search on the website

By using advanced search you can delimit your search in several ways by using the choices available on the search page. For example, you can choose to search only the texts from a certain ministry or among press releases only. You can combine all the choices available on a search page.

You can delimit by choosing one or more of the following alternatives:

  • Type of contents, for example press releases or government reports
  • Sender search in one or more ministries texts
  • Areas of responsibility search in one or more areas of responsibility
  • Date

Search PDF documents

To extend your search, you can choose to search in text in PDF documents. Most publications such as government reports and bills are published in PDF format. The basic approach, however, is that text in these documents is not searched through as this results in many more search hits.
