Emailing the Government and ministries

Any viewpoints, suggestions or questions about Government policies may be sent to the ministers or ministries via the Senior Registry Clerk of the relevant ministry. Please do not enclose any attachments.

Emails are official documents

All mail, whether traditional or electronic, is regarded as an official document and must therefore be registered in the official record. Among other things, this means that the material is accessible to all and that the public and media have the right to read the contents of all such documents. Individuals wishing to read incoming email are referred, in the first instance, to the Senior Registry Clerk of the relevant ministry.

How electronic mail is dealt with

Incoming email to ministers is received and registered by the Senior Registry Clerk at the relevant ministry.

Every day the ministers receive a large number of letters containing viewpoints and questions. These are dealt with in various ways depending on the issues raised, the ministry they were sent to and the will of the individual minister. All letters are read but, owing to a lack of time, it is impossible to answer all of them or, for example, to assist students with research or fact-finding.

Email addresses in the Government Offices

The easiest way of contacting the Government Offices is via the email forms to senior registry clerks and press secretaries you find in the navigation links. If the person you want to write to is not in on the list, or if for any reason you want to use your own email program, the email addresses are formatted as follows:

Agencies responsibility for information and ministries areas of responsibility

Each ministry is responsible for a number of agencies. These are listed under the heading Government agencies in the left menu of each ministrys homepage. The agencies are responsible for information about ongoing operations in their respective policy areas/spheres of responsibility.

The ministries answer questions about Government policies. If you are unsure which ministry is responsible for a particular issue you can search in the A-Z list of areas of responsibility.
