Eight main features

A developing country can receive support and help to remove obstacles but this presupposes well-thought out, effective and equitable cooperation at the global level. Sweden has specified eight main features to guide Swedish development policy.

On the basis of current research findings, Sweden has identified eight main features of equitable and sustainable global development. These features express the values that will permeate Sweden´s policy and its aims. The main features are:

  • respect for human rights
  • democracy and good governance
  • gender equality
  • sustainable use of natural resources and environmental concern
  • economic growth
  • social development and security

In addition, there are two main features where new demands are placed on a holistic approach and cooperation at the global level:

  • conflict management
  • global public goods
