Visual arts

State action in the field of the visual arts is focused on making contemporary visual art accessible to as many people as possible at the same time as conditions conducive to high quality in artistic work are put in place. Most state action for public art is taken through the Swedish National Public Art Council Sweden. In addition to direct support for artists, action in the field of visual art and design consists of funding for state art museums, Swedish Travelling Exhibitions, the National Swedish Handicraft Council, the regional museums and certain other museums and exhibitors throughout the country.

Each year the State provides financial support for organisations that promote art, for the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and for applied art and design cooperatives and collective studios. Temporary funding is also provided for a range of art projects.
