The Riksdag adopts frameworks for the expenditure areas. The Government decides on the objectives and responsibilities of each public authority.

The Riksdag takes the final decision on the central government budget in mid-December.
After this, it is the task of the Government to ensure that the decisions are put into effect. This occurs by means of appropriation directions issued by the Government to the authorities.

These directions specify the objectives the authorities should pursue in their activities, the
size of the appropriations available for their use, and the information on results that they are
required to submit to the Government.

In December the Ministry of Finance is already at work on the next budget. We have come full circle.
