The Riksdag considers the Budget Bill. The Opposition presents different alternatives to the Governments budget proposal.

Up to and including the fifteenth day after the Government has submitted the Budget Bill, members of the Riksdag are entitled to present private members motions in connection with the budget.

The opposition parties then submit alternatives to the Governments proposed budget. Generally, each opposition party will make an overall presentation of its alternative budget in a special economic policy motion.

The oppositions proposals are elaborated in greater detail in separate motions, with the parties usually presenting their proposals in one motion per expenditure area.
