The Ministry of Finance works on the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill. The Swedish National Audit Office presents audit reports to the Government.

At the end of March, Riksrevisionen, the Swedish national audit office, presents audit reports and an account to the Government of the annual reports submitted by the authorities at the end of February. The Ministry of Finance works on the content of the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill.

The task of Riksrevisionen is to scrutinise the operations of the authorities that are answerable to the Government. Riksrevisionen conducts annual audits and effectiveness audits.

The point of the annual audits is to check that the accounts rendered by the authorities are reliable, true and fair. The effectiveness audit involves an examination of whether central government sector activities are being carried out effectively and efficiently.

Rikrevisionen is a new authority answerable to the Riksdag. It was created on 1 July 2003 and took over the auditing activities that the Swedish National Audit Office was previously responsible for.
