Legislation
The Riksdag (Parliament) is Sweden's legislative assembly. A majority of the Parliaments decisions are based on proposals for new laws or amendments to existing laws presented by the Government. The proposals are prepared by the ministry responsible for the area of activity to which the item of legislation belongs.
The Ministry of Justice deals with a considerable amount of legislation and has overall responsibility within the Government Offices for ensuring the quality of legislation.
The Ministry is responsible for legislation in the following areas:
- constitutional law,
- civil law,
- procedural law, and
- penal law.
