Seminar on IEA's World Energy Outlook 2009
The World Energy Outlook is the flagship publication of the International Energy Agency. It has long been recognised as the authoritative source of global long-term energy market analysis.
In its most recent flagship report "World Energy Outlook 2009", the IEA sets out the energy transition needed to meet a 450 ppm policy scenario, which is considered to be compatible with the 2oC objective. The WEO 2009 provides a detailed countryby-country breakdown of emissions, investments, costs and financing in a 450 ppm world - across power, industry, transport and buildings sectors. The effects of the economic crisis on emissions are examined. The report is intended to provide climate negotiators with a clearer picture on the challenge they face as well as an enhanced understanding on what policies they should choose and the associated costs and benefits.
At the seminar on November 20 IEA Chief Economist Dr. Fatih Birol, will present the WEO 2009. There were comments on the report from policy-makers and experts on energy and climate policy. The seminar was arranged by the Commission on Sustainable Development.
The International Energy Agency (IEA), considered as the most authoritative source for information and analysis of energy issues, has over recent years provided services to help the international climate negotiations. At this point in time, shortly before the Copenhagen Conference, the IEA analyses are more pertinent than ever.

Climate change has a major impact on societies, individuals and coming generations. The EU will continue to pursue global climate efforts. The task of the Presidency, together with other parties, is to work for the adoption of a new climate agreement during the international climate negotiations in Copenhagen in
December.
