Agriculture

Agriculture is an important part of Sweden. It provides us with food, open landscapes and a living countryside.

As a member of the EU, Sweden's agriculture is covered by the Common Agricultural Policy. In September 2003 EU agriculture ministers decided that the policy should be reformed. Sweden began initiating the reform on 1 January 2005, with the goal of achieving competitive Swedish agriculture, a living countryside and solidarity with poor countries. Today, the production of food is to a greater degree governed by consumer demand and not by specific aid.
