    Environmental policy is an important part of the Government's sustainable development policy. The overall goal of environmental policy is to be able to pass on to the next generation a society in which the major environmental problems in Sweden have been solved. This requires clear environmental objectives, effective policy instruments and international cooperation. Work on the environmental quality objectives forms the basis of Sweden's environmental policy.

  • Energy and climate

    Climate change is the greatest and most important environmental challenge of our time. In order to restrain climate change, emissions of greenhouse gases must be reduced and this will require adapting the world's energy systems. Energy policy must help guarantee the future supply of energy and drive the necessary transition in Sweden. International cooperation on the climate issue is a prerequisite for achieving cost-effective, fair and sustainable solutions.
