EU work

A large proportion of the daily work at the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications consists of work on EU-related issues.

Officials and the political leadership of the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications take part in the day-to-day activities connected with the EU Council of Ministers, where the Ministry has a very broad sphere of responsibilities.

Council constellations

The Ministry is responsible for work in two council constellations and a number of council working groups. The council constellations are as follows:

  • Council for Transport, Telecommunications and Energy
  • Competitiveness Council (together with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs)

The Ministry is also responsible for certain other issues that are dealt with under other council constellations. Examples of such issues are regional policy affairs which are dealt with by the Council for General Affairs and External Relations (foreign ministers) and forestry issues which are dealt with by the Agricultural Council.

Representation in Brussels

Four officials sent out by the Ministry work at Swedens Permanent Representation in Brussels. Together with officials at the Ministry in Stockholm they take part in the work of the different council working groups. Their task is to assist the Swedish representatives when processing various cases in the Coreper. They are also responsible for many of the day-to-day contacts with other EU institutions such as the Commission and European Parliament.
