The Ministry of Education and Research is responsible for gender equality under expenditure areas 13 - Integration and gender equality, 15 - Study support and 16 - Education and academic research. It is also responsible for liberal adult education, the policy for civil society and youth policy under expenditure area 17 - Culture, media, faith communities and leisure.

Expenditure areas
Government budget expenditure is divided into 27 expenditure areas, which are defined in the Riksdag Act. One committee can prepare one or more expenditure areas but no area is shared by more than one committee.
