Summary
Over 17 per cent of the Swedish population, or about 1.6 million people, are 65 years old or older. Population projections show that in the next 30 years, the largest part of population growth will be among people aged 65 and older. By 2035, the greater part of population growth will be in groups that are not of working age. The very oldest part of the population has increased since the mid-20th century and the number of people aged over 80 is projected to almost double between now and 2050.
This fact sheet also describes funding and expenditure of the elderly care in Sweden, the share of house holds in ordinary housing and special housing, distribution of home care and day care, form of management etcetera.
