Summary

In recent years, climate and energy issues have been pushed high up the political agenda and been the focal point of much public debate. Meeting the challenges facing our climate and the transition to sustainable development requires international cooperation, strength and a willingness to change.

According to researchers, global emissions need to be at least halved over the next 40 years if we are to save the climate. All over the world, people will have to change the way they build, live and travel. Sweden wishes to take the lead in this development, both internationally and nationally. The challenges provide us with an opportunity to switch over to a sustainable economy, based on renewable resources.

This is why Sweden are moving forward and raising the level of ambition. With our new integrated climate and energy policy, we are the first industrialised country to present a concrete strategy to break our dependency on fossil energy. International efforts and climate cooperation are part of this national policy.
