Summary

Information leaflet about the work on biodiversity and ecosystem services during the Swedish Presidency of the EU 2009.

The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is a global agreement on the preservation and sustainable use of biological diversity. During the period 20092010 the Conventions objective of significantly reducing the rate of loss of biodiversity by 2010 is being followed up and discussions are being held on objectives and visions post-2010. The 2010 objective is a Swedish initiative taken in connection with the sustainable development strategy adopted by the European Council in
Göteborg in 2001. Sweden therefore has good prospects for pursuing the issue of follow-up and further development during the Swedish Presidency of the EU in the second half of 2009.
