Summary
At the Government's request, the Defence Commission has drawn up a proposal regarding a strategy for Sweden's security, together with relevant reforms. The proposal will serve as supporting material for government bills and for positions taken by the Riksdag on these issues during 2006.
The view of security, and methods for working with security, have gradually changed. The security strategy provides a common approach towards these issues for the first time. In the strategy, the Defence Commission presents its views on the objectives of our security, the threats that exist to our security and the means available to us to strengthen security.
In its report, the Defence Commission states that the ongoing work with security at the Government Offices should be more coordinated. The division of responsibilities between ministries should be reviewed. A development in Sweden in which security issues are dealt with in a more concerted manner is in line with the latest trends in the EU.
