Continued Swedish presence in New York

An honorary consulate-general will be established in New York, USA, on 1 January 2010. This will mean a continued Swedish presence in New York, which will be able to support Swedish export companies and promote US investment in Sweden.

The Consulate's district will encompass the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The decision has been taken by the head of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Minister Carl Bildt.

Today the Ministry for Foreign Affairs appointed David Dangoor Honorary Consul-General. He has a long history in US business and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce, which he chaired from 1997 to 2001.

Mr Dangoor will take up his duties as Honorary Consul-General in New York in January 2010. Being an honorary consul is an honorary appointment without remuneration.
