Gunilla Carlsson to speak about the climate at World Water Week

Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson is to open and take part in the World Water Week in Stockholm, starting on Monday 17 August. The event, which is one of the world's largest annual water events, is increasingly focusing on water and climate issues.

During the Water Week, Ms Carlsson will be meeting several of her ministerial colleagues from other countries to discuss the conditions for developing countries' climate issues before the UN climate meeting in Copenhagen in December.

It is in the developing countries that climate change is having the most obvious impact and is hitting hardest. Sweden aims to be at the forefront, both in implementing effective measures at home and in work with developing international cooperation to deal with the climate challenges.

Ms Carlsson is to take part in a press conference together with Rejoice Mabudafhasi, Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, South Africa, Dr Bindeshwar Pathak, who was awarded the 2009 Stockholm Water Prize, Jan Eliasson, Chair of WaterAid Sweden and Mr Anders Berntell, head of the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI).
