The Ministry of Justice's work during the Swedish Presidency of the EU
Sweden held the Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers from 1 July until 31 December 2009. This meant that during this six-month period, Sweden led the work of the EU and was responsible for driving development forward on important EU issues.

The Presidency trio
Sweden was part of a Presidency trio along with France, which held the Presidency in autumn 2008, and the Czech Republic, which held the Presidency in spring 2009. The idea behind a common work programme is to increase continuity in the Council's work.

Informal ministerial meeting on Justice and Home Affairs
The Government has determined that an informal meeting of the justice and home affairs ministers will be held during the Swedish Presidency of the EU. The meeting took place in Stockholm on 15-17 July 2009. The main topic of discussion at the meeting was a new multi-annual action plan in the area of justice and home affairs, the Stockholm Programme.
The aim of the informal ministerial meeting is to hold a free exchange of ideas on more general and long-term issues.
