Fredrik Reinfeldt to lead EU during climate change conference
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (16-18 December), Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt is in Copenhagen to represent the EU at the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
On Wednesday, Fredrik Reinfeldt, together with Commission President José Manuel Barroso, will meet Ethiopian Prime Minister and representative for the African Union Meles Zenawari and other African heads of state and government. The meeting is a way for the EU's leaders to meet Africa's leaders to discuss the possibility of reaching a global climate agreement. Over Thursday and Friday, Fredrik Reinfeldt will meet more heads of state and government and address the assembled conference.

Background
At the UN Climate Change Conference, which is being held in Copenhagen on 7-18 December, a decision will be made on a new international climate agreement. The conference is the largest summit in world history, with representatives of some 193 countries.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) forms the basis for international climate cooperation. Representatives of those countries which have signed the climate convention meet every year at special Conference of the Parties (COP) meetings.
