The jury's nomination highlighted Nudie's philosophy of social and environmental responsibility. It also emphasised the company's current exports, which amount to over a quarter of a billion kronor, sales in more than 1200 stores, and that in 2008 the company grew by 35 per cent.

During the prize giving ceremony, Ewa Björling stressed the importance of the fashion industry, not only for the industry itself but for the image of Sweden in general:

"I am happy to promote Sweden as a creative and innovative country. The successes and recognition that Swedish fashion and design have achieved abroad strengthens this very image and contributes of course to successes in other industries as well," says Dr Björling.
