Swedish-Lithuanian Motorways of the Sea Project approved for EU co-financing
The Swedish and Lithuanian Governments have worked very hard to concretize and develop the concept of Motorways of the Sea. As a result of these efforts, high class Motorways of the Sea projects have been submitted to the European Commission within the call for funding for Trans-European Transport Network.
The Swedish and Lithuanian Governments can today inform that the jointly submitted project involving the ports of Karlshamn and Klaipeda has received EU co-financing of approximately 5 million euros. The project aims at improving infrastructure in the two ports and to support intermodality which will contribute to develop the transport corridor between Scandinavia-Eastern Europe-Black Sea area. These measures will contribute to a more efficient transport corridor between Sweden and Lithuania.
- It is very satisfying that this Swedish-Lithuanian Motorways of the Sea project has been approved by the Commission, which means that the transport corridor between Karlshamn-Klaipeda is acknowledge as one of the most important in the Baltic Sea and is of vital interest for the whole EU. This also underlines the growing importance of an efficient transport corridor in the southern Baltic Sea and the important role this transport corridor will play for our countries the coming years say the Minister for Communications in Sweden Åsa Torstensson and the Minister of Transport in Lithuania Algirdas Butkevicius in a jointly comment.
